UX/UI Challenges

  • Established business that needed a fresh visual identity, better defined brand, and a new website

  • Website needs to allow customers to see all products available but still highlight benefits of shopping in-store

  • Create a system that works with their existing PO system and gives the opportunity to grow and eventually change in the future

Key Feature Goals

  • Website and brand reflect the quality of service and products in-store

  • A system that can easily be maintained by staff

First iterations of categorization system

First iterations of categorization system

Process

  1. Questionnaire - deep dive into the business. This covered customers, vision for visual identity, what solutions the website needed to provide, and the 5 year goals.

  2. Brand & Visual Identity Design - Logo, colors, icons, fonts. Logo and icons were custom illustrated.

  3. Website - Existing Shopify store needed a complete redesign. The team didn’t understand how to use the site and the backend system had become disorganized. I set up a product categorization system that served both the internal team and end consumers. This gives the team a better understanding of product performance and allows consumers to shop by many product filters.

Information Architecture

Previously on the site categories blended or were repetitive, additionally Bedford Fields offers alot more than plants and if you didn’t visit the store you wouldn’t know. Creating a clear product categorization with tags made the process much clearer for staff and department managers felt empowered to upload more products. The site also now highlights all of the customer service features you wouldn’t receive at a large garden center such as potting services, landscape planning and more.
